ThreeRays Attends IAEA the 2nd International Conference on Accelerator Research and Innovation
From 22 to 26 June 2026, the 2nd IAEA International Conference on Accelerator Research and Innovation (#Accelerators2026) kicked off grandly at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The event brought together over 500 industry delegates from 75 IAEA Member States, including academic researchers specializing in accelerators, equipment manufacturers, irradiation facility operators and industrial policymakers. Peng Wei, General Manager of ThreeRays and iia China/Asia Representative, participated in the full conference programme and engaged in in-depth exchanges at this top-tier global industry event.
As a leading global summit hosted by the IAEA dedicated to the peaceful applications of particle accelerators, the conference built on outcomes from its inaugural edition held in 2022. Centered around the IAEA’s four flagship initiatives — Atoms4Food, NUTEC Plastics, Rays of Hope and Atoms4NetZero — the conference featured two core thematic tracks for discussion. The first track focused on accelerator technological innovation and facility operation & maintenance, covering topics such as R&D of compact electron/X-ray accelerators, automated irradiation conveyor systems, dosimetry measurement and calibration frameworks, master planning for new irradiation plants, full-lifecycle IQ/OQ/PQ qualification, and regional industry talent development systems. The second track addressed diversified industrial deployment of accelerator technologies, showcasing proven commercialized use cases including food quarantine and sterilization, medical device disinfection, medical isotope production, microplastic pollution remediation, non-destructive cultural heritage inspection, radiation modification of materials, and rapid microbiological testing.
A diverse range of supplementary sessions was arranged throughout the conference, including technical poster presentations, closed-door roundtable dialogues, side events and satellite meetings. These platforms fostered communication between enterprises and research institutes worldwide, facilitating the translation of technical know-how into practical solutions, joint project development and regional agency partnerships, thereby supporting the wide adoption of advanced accelerator technologies across developing countries globally.
During the conference, Peng Wei visited the IAEA Seibersdorf Laboratories, where he inspected the demonstration mobile electron accelerator and test platforms in the neutron laboratory. He held multi-layered intensive discussions with researchers, accelerator manufacturers, irradiation plant operators and specialists from international organizations, exchanging insights on technical solutions, project cooperation and market expansion strategies, laying a solid foundation for long-term cross-border collaboration in the future.
Moving forward, ThreeRays will continue to leverage authoritative international platforms including the IAEA and IIA.
